You can download the latest version of NowMax from the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). You can also download it through the URL’s you’ll find in the activation e-mails.

  • Do you need an account to use NowMax?

A NowMax account is not required if you are strictly joining a NowMax video call as an interviewee.

A NowMax account is only required if you need to create your own interviews and send invitations to participants. Having a NowMax account allows you to create or schedule interviews. An account also allows you to access your personal settings and look up past interviews.

  • Do I need a camera on my smartphone to join an interview on NowMax?

A (front) camera on your smartphone is required to download the application and to join a NowMax interview. However, you can disable your camera during the video call. Although, you will not be able to transmit video of yourself. You will continue to be able to listen and speak during the meeting and view the video of the other participant. This solution is mainly applicable for HD radio interviews.

  • How many people can record together in a session?

A NowMax interview is always a one-on-one session. One host + one guest. Both sides are recording their remote video call in Full HD quality.

  • Can I tilt my phone screen the way I want to?

No. Mainly during the interview phase, we want video callers to have their mobile devices in landscape mode, in accordance with main screen orientations (16:9, as on most computers and television sets).

  • How can I generate a well-lit and stable image?

You can watch this short video about the four valuable steps of choosing the right location for a remote interview. Consider:

    1. Exposure
    2. Height
    3. Surface
    4. Inclination

You can use a smartphone stand or small tripod, but even household items like cooking pots, boxes or plastic containers can help. You can find some DIY solutions on our website.

  • Can I record my interview?

Of course, it’s the most exciting features of NowMax remote interviews! As an Interviewer, you can start, pause, restart and stop the HD recording of a remote interview. As an Interviewee, you need to give your permissing for the recording to start. You are also able to pause and stop the recording.

  • How does NowMax guarantee a High Quality recording?

With the dual delivery strategy, interviewers can conduct a real-time interview in low resolution while a high quality recording is saved locally on the device. After the interview, the HD recordings from each side are automatically transferred to the cloud and processed into one full conversation. You don’t lose any interactivity between interviewer and interviewee, while your audio and video footage is recorded in HD quality. The synchronized audio & video footage is instantly available for editing.

  • What does locally recorded mean?

‘Locally recorded’ means that the recording takes place on the smartphone instead of over the internet. You’re not dependent on limited bandwidth and connection speed, so you don’t lose any important information and don’t encounter any disruptions.

  • How is the quality of the recording?

All recordings are provided in .mp4 format. The audio recordings are 48 kHz 16 bit. The video recordings are up to HD 1080 & 30 fps per track. NowMax records with industry leading codecs, without any artificial upscaling.

You can record 30 minutes during the first 14 days for free and see how it sounds and looks. Request a demo.

  • Can I change volume and lighting parameters? Are these changes visible in the final recording?

As an Interviewer, you can remotely control several parameters: white balance, light intensity and output volume. These changes will also be visible and audible in the recorded footage of the interview. It’s quite important to correctly adjust the parameters during the realtime conversation in order to generate the same HD image.

You can even send on-screen commands to remotely ‘direct’ your Interviewee and you can add a ‘rule of thirds’ overlay – however, these will not be visible in the end result.

  • Can I enlarge the screen of my video call partner?

If you want any of the video call screens enlarged, you can just click on their side of the screen. Your share of the screen will become a little smaller by doing so, and vice versa.

  • How much bandwidth do I need when using mobile data?

It might seem strange, but using your LTE/4Q mobile data produces a more stable connection stream during video calls. However, your mobile data plan might be more expensive than your Wifi internet connection.

In order to process the amount of video footage (realtime video call + upload of HD video footage to the servers), you would transfer up to 1 Megabyte per second.

As a rule of thumb, you would require 1 Gigabyte of free space on your mobile device for a HD recording of approximately 30 minutes. NowMax temporarily stores the recorded footage before uploading it to the cloud.

Of course, the transmission of the HD video footage demands the biggest amount of data.

In order of size: HD video footage > realtime video footage > HD audio footage > realtime audio footage

  • How much free space do I require to temporarily store the local HD recording?

Before it is transferred to the NowMax servers, your local recording is temporarily stored on your mobile device (you won’t be able to find it, though). Before starting a recording, you should make sure that you have enough storage capacity available.

The rule of thumb is that an HD video recording of 1 minute would require between 30 and 45 Megabytes. In comparison, you would require one Gigabyte of free space for a recording of respectively 33 to 22 minutes.

Within the video call, you can check your available disk space by checking the ‘Status’ tab. The recording is automatically deleted after it has been uploaded.

  • Can I try the NowMax application?

Yes. As a solution for (broadcast) professionals, we gladly demonstrate the app with a live demo. Afterwards, we will provide you with a 14-day free trial. Within this time span, you can record audio and video for max. 30 minutes.

  • Wireless (WiFi) Connection Issues

If you are experiencing any issue(s) with latency, frozen screen, poor quality audio and/or video while using a home or non-enterprise WiFi connection, try the following:

    • Learn about Wifi or watch a simple video about Wifi connectivity
    • Do an online speed test
    • Try a Wired connection
    • Try bringing your mobile device closer to the Wifi router or acces point
    • Use a Wifi extender or a mesh set
  • One of the tracks didn't finish uploading, how can I recover it?

If something should come up, you’re always welcome to contact . Our logger system allows us to detect what went wrong at what time and what caused the issue. If we, or one of our partners, proves to be the cause of the technical issue, we will not charge the used recording minutes for that session.

Silver lining: you will never lose a low resolution recording. We can always provide you with the realtime (low res) recording as a fallback option. It is automatically included in your subscription.

The main causes for failed uploads of the HD footage are:

    1. a weak internet connection,
    2. a ‘force quit’ of the NowMax application during an ongoing recording,
    3. tight security settings of a local network.
